Vasant Ranchhod established Maharajas in 1991; originally in the spice retail business it was clear that there was public demand for an Indian Restaurant in the Hutt Valley. Vasant ventured into the restaurant business opening Maharajas in November 1991.

Initially operating with a small 24 seating capacity, and serving authentic Indian cuisine, Maharajah’s was full most nights. It became apparent that due to popularity, the restaurant was too small so Vasant decided to take the plunge and expand the restaurant from 24 seats to it’s present 150 seats.

Maharaja’s has not forgotten it’s small beginnings and though the setting and decor have changed from the small humble beginnings to an elaborate Indian Dining Hall, prices are kept to an affordable range.

Our goal is to serve fresh Artisan style Indian cuisine bursting with flavor in a relaxed, friendly environment.
